Please join us at the Pickwick Theatre Classic Film Series in Park Ridge, IL, for the 50th Anniversary celebration of the last of the great Sean Connery Bond films, You Only Live Twice, where 007’s adventure takes him to exotic Japan. This film was Connery’s 5th outing before he went on a four year hiatus, only to return for his last official Bond film in 1971’s Diamonds Are Forever.
Ian Fleming Foundation Board Member Colin Clark and (nine-time) official James Bond author Raymond Benson will be Special Guests, as they were last year for the Pickwick’s 50th Anniversary of Thunderball. Raymond will have a book signing in the lobby before and after the movie screening. Raymond will also speak on stage at 7 PM on the history of You Only Live Twice. Colin will be representing the Ian Fleming Foundation by having on display (in the theatre lobby) the Foundation’s 12ft Bell 47 SPECTRE/Osato Helicopter RC Model actually used in the film. The Helicopter RC Model was 1 of 4 used in the sequence in which Bond is being chased in his gadget laden “Little Nellie” Gyrocopter supplied by Q-Branch. These vehicles where prominently shown in the exciting chase sequence. Colin will speak on stage briefly on the history of the Foundation’s Vehicle Model. Also on stage before the film, Classic Film Series Host Matthew C. Hoffman will have a drawing (for the first 100 patrons through the theater doors) to win a free tour of the Ian Fleming Foundation’s 36 James Bond Vehicles actually used in the filming of the Bond movies. The Foundation’s facility is in the Kankakee area. There will be 2 winners drawn. Each winner is welcome to bring along up to three family members or friends.
This is the Pickwick Theatre Classic Film Series’ 4th Season and You Only Live Twice will be the Season Finale. The Ian Fleming Foundation has had a Bond Vehicle on display the last two seasons celebrating 50 year anniversaries of Goldfinger and Thunderball, respectively. Each film was honored with a vehicle from the movie.
Admission is $10/$8 advance or $6 for the 2 PM matinee. You can order tickets prior to the movie date online through the Pickwick Theatre website at a reduced rate. There will be two showings: the 2 PM matinee and a 7:30 PM evening show. Doors will open at 6 PM. Organist Jay Warren will perform Bond-themed prelude music on the Mighty Wurlitzer at 6:30 PM.
Raymond, Colin, and the Foundation Vehicle will not be present for the matinee. You can follow the Classic Film Series and You Only Live Twice on the Pickwick Theatre Classic Film Series‘ Facebook page for further announcements and invites.
