Some films have stature, and Doctor Zhivago is one of them. It’s a quality few films today achieve. Over 400 patrons attended our February screening of the David Lean epic, and not one was disappointed. It’s a stunningly beautiful film, rich in detail. And to watch actors like Alec Guinness up on our mega-screen is an experience you can’t replicate anywhere else. I’d like to share some feedback we received from a fan who was there…
Matthew,
I wanted to thank you for getting this amazing 1965 movie to the big screen at the iconic Pickwick Theatre this past Wednesday evening. I’ve seen hundreds of movies in my life and the entire experience on Wednesday night was among the very best and most enjoyable. I walked out thinking how unique the viewing experience was and how very lucky I was to see it the way I did at the Pickwick. Again, a sincere thank you to you for your hard work and best of luck in your continued efforts to bring these great classic films to the Pickwick and the Library. You make a big positive difference in the community and for lots of people. I watched many people’s faces as they walked in on Wednesday night and you could see how excited they were to see ‘Dr. Zhivago’.

p.s. As an aside, David Lean’s ‘big picture’ talents were certainly on full display in this epic film with its amazing outdoor vistas and the Russian Revolution as backdrop. But beyond the film itself was an amazing story written by Boris Pasternak. As I watched the film, it really hit me that existential events such war and revolution, which often ordinary people have no control over, can really do a number on people’s lives. The film and story of that chaotic time was a great reminder and lesson for today.
Again, you do a fabulous job and the community benefits significantly from your amazing efforts. And like all the films you show, ‘Dr. Zhivago’ was an extraordinary and unique experience to see on the big screen with such high quality in both the film and the sound. I don’t think there is another theatre in the entire country (if not the world) that can match the viewing experience of these classics being shown at the Pickwick. We are very lucky to have this opportunity and a sincere thanks again to you. Good luck going forward.
