On November 14, 2017, The Wizard of Oz became the highest-attended film ever for the Pickwick Theatre Classic Film Series. Over 900 patrons (930) came out to see this truly great film on the big screen. We are extremely grateful to those who supported this event– everyone from our regulars to the forty Girl Scouts who came in a group. Some of the kids were seeing the film for the very first time, and many were seeing it in a theatre for the very first time! Their reactions of joy and delight were the most rewarding aspect of the experience for us.

Prior to the film and cartoon, we had Jay Warren perform his “Oz” themes on the Mighty Wurlitzer. In the lobby, meanwhile, the Park Ridge Public Library set up a “green screen” for people to get their pictures taken in the magical Land of Oz! We are grateful to Staci (Children’s Services) and Anastasia (Circulation) for setting this up for us. Fans of all ages participated and appeared on the Yellow Brick Road. Seventy of these photos can be viewed here courtesy of the Park Ridge Public Library: Wizard of Oz Green Screen!

Thank you to Jay Warren, Movie Hostess Monica, Shannon, Jacqui, Jerry, and the entire theatre management and staff for all their hard work to make this show a great success. We are very happy the community came out. If any film deserves to be the record holder, it’s The Wizard of Oz!

The largest turnout for the Pickwick Theatre Classic Film Series!
