The start of hockey season– and the Chicago Blackhawks’ 100th season– seemed like a good time to present a film about “old time hockey.” Paul Newman stars as Reggie Dunlop, the player/coach of a minor league hockey team that is struggling with attendance. With the addition of the Hanson Brothers– and some much needed violence– the team’s popularity skyrockets. The story was by Nancy Dowd, who was inspired by her brother’s true-to-life experiences as a hockey player. Slap Shot is a foul-mouthed, 1970s cult classic– and perhaps the definitive guy movie! The Pickwick Theatre Classic Film Series is excited to be presenting one of the greatest sports movies of all time on October 8 in the Mega-Theatre arena. We’ll need our boosters in the stands, so put on your favorite jersey, grab your hockey stick and head on over. It’ll be a rowdy night! The puck drops at 1 PM & 7 PM!
