“The Hills Are Alive” in Park Ridge

Thank you to the nearly 500 (497) patrons who attended our screening of The Sound of Music on April 19, 2018. It was a wonderful spring night, and we are grateful that so many kids were in attendance. Congratulations to the winners of our prize giveaway (which included gift certificates to Edelweiss restaurant in Norridge). For our grand prize, a little girl won the 5-disc Sound of Music dvd/blu-ray collection, which she claimed at Intermission.

We were impressed with the total silence in the theatre during the scene in the convent graveyard where the Nazis are searching for the von Trapp family. It was as if nobody in the audience wanted to be responsible for getting the family captured! We appreciate the general respect shown towards this film. We realize that many in Park Ridge were viewing The Sound of Music for the very first time, and that’s how it should be experienced that first time. Should we present it again some day, we will certainly do the sing-along version! It really is a moving film. When Christopher Plummer’s Captain von Trapp begins to sing Edelweiss at the festival– with the audience joining in– it’s a moment that can best be appreciated in a theatre.

Thank you to organist Jay Warren, Movie Hostess Monica, Ticket Taker Shannon, Allison at the raffle table, Jerry up in the booth, and the entire Pickwick Theatre staff!
